IN 10 OF THE 29 FORMULAS AUTHORISED CLAIMS

Magnesium

The most reused ingredient in our library. It carries ten authorised EU health claims, which is more than almost anything else we work with, and it is the reason several formulas can never share a window with each other.

FORM WE USE Bisglycinate
NRV 375 mg per day
OUR RANGE 100 – 200 mg per formula
EFSA UPPER LIMIT 250 mg per day, supplemental250 mg per day
APPEARS IN 10 formulas
AUTHORISED CLAIMS 10 under Reg. 432/2012

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

Ten claims. All of them authorised.

These are the exact wordings on the EU register for magnesium. We do not paraphrase them into something that sounds stronger, and we only use them where the dose clears 15% of the NRV, which is the condition attached to all ten. These are the exact wordings on the EU register for magnesium. AND WHAT WE ARE NOT

Magnesium has no authorised claim for sleep, for anxiety or for cramps, however often you read otherwise. Where we use it in a sleep formula, the sleep claim comes from the melatonin next to it, not from the magnesium.

WHY BISGLYCINATE

The claim is the same. The stomach is not.

Every magnesium salt carries the same ten authorised claims, so the form is not a claim argument and we do not use it as one. We chose bisglycinate for tolerance, and because a liquid system lets us split the amount instead of pushing it all at once.

OXIDEThe cheap one

Highest magnesium per milligram of salt and the worst tolerated. Common in pressed tablets because it takes up less room in the pill.

CITRATEThe common one

Better tolerated than oxide, mildly laxative at the top of the range. A reasonable default that we did not pick.

BISGLYCINATEWhat we use

Chelated to glycine, which is also the calming amino acid in our sleep formula. Gentler on an empty stomach, which matters because we serve this one away from meals.

THE HONEST VERSION

There is no authorised claim that says bisglycinate absorbs better than citrate, and we are not going to imply one. It is a tolerance decision, made because our doses are served daily and often on an empty stomach. There is no authorised claim that says bisglycinate absorbs better than citrate, and we are not going to imply one. WHERE IT APPEARS

Ten of the twenty-nine carry magnesium.

This is why the engine has to think about totals rather than about formulas one at a time. Two of these in the same window and you are already at the ceiling.

THE CEILING

250 mg a day, across everything you take.

The limit applies to your total, not to each formula on its own. It is the single reason the engine schedules formulas into windows instead of just adding them together, and it is the kind of check a shelf of separate bottles cannot make for you.The limit applies to your total, not to each formula on its own. HOW WE STAY UNDERWe split the windows

Two magnesium formulas never land in the same window. If your plan needs both, one goes to the morning and the other to the night.

HOW WE STAY UNDERWe halve the dose

When a second formula has to share a window, the engine serves it at 100 mg instead of 200, and says so in the app.

IF WE CANNOTWe drop one

If neither fits, the lower-priority formula does not enter your plan and you are told which one and why.

WHAT IT REACTS WITH

Documented pairs, not hunches.

Magnesium is one of the 140 ingredients in our library, so it has 139 possible partners. These are the ones we have documented so far, out of the 443 pairs on file.

COMPETES FOR ABSORPTIONCalcium

Both use the same transport at high doses. In Bones & joints they are deliberately held at a 4:1 ratio; elsewhere they are moved into different windows.

SPACE THEM OUTZinc and iron

At the top of the range they compete. Iron is served in the morning before food, magnesium at night away from it, which resolves it without lowering either.

TALK TO A DOCTOR FIRSTSome medication

Magnesium can interfere with certain antibiotics, bisphosphonates and thyroid medication. The app asks about medication before any formula carrying it is assigned.

WHAT WE HAVE NOT CHECKED YET

443 of the 9,730 possible pairs in our library are documented, which is 4.55%. The rest are not "safe", they are simply unchecked, and we would rather write that down than let the number look like a badge.443 of the 9,730 possible pairs in our library are documented, which is 4.55%.
