Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
A water-soluble B vitamin that your body turns into FMN and FAD, two coenzymes used by more than a hundred enzymes: in the part of your cells that produces energy, in burning fats and in recycling glutathione. It carries nine authorised EU health claims, EFSA has set no upper limit for it, and it sits at 1.4 mg in one formula. It is also the reason your urine can turn bright yellow.
WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY
Nine claims. All of them authorised.
These are the wordings on the EU register for riboflavin, and we do not paraphrase them into something that sounds stronger. All nine carry the same condition: the product has to be at least a source of riboflavin under Regulation (EC) 1924/2006. Energy & vitality serves 1.4 mg, which is 100% of the NRV.These are the wordings on the EU register for riboflavin, and we do not paraphrase them. All nine need the product to be at least a source of it. Our formula serves 100% of the NRV.
Riboflavin is not the headline claim on Energy & vitality: that comes from the niacin next to it. The iron claim is about how your body handles iron. It is not a treatment for low iron, and Energy & vitality carries no iron at all. And there is no authorised claim for migraine. Our file cites a trial that used 400 mg a day for three months in people with migraine, nearly 300 times what we serve. That is a medical use, not something a food supplement can promise, and we do not use it as one.
WHY RIBOFLAVIN-5-PHOSPHATE
The claims are the same. The form is the active one.
The nine claims attach to riboflavin, not to a particular form, so the form is not a claim argument and we do not use it as one. Our form file names riboflavin-5-phosphate as the form of choice and describes it as the active form, and our EU regulatory record names it as the form to use.
Our file describes it as the active form of the vitamin. Your body uses riboflavin to build FMN and FAD, the two coenzymes that do its work. The form is a note we record, not a claim.
It dissolves in water, its taste is neutral and it keeps best between pH 5 and 7. Every VION dose is a liquid, so that is what the choice turns on.
Our form file lists light as a sensitivity and marks this form as not stable in liquid. How that is handled between production and your cartridge is not documented yet, and we would rather write that down than leave it out.
Our figures on how it behaves in your body are thin. Our notes put its absorption at 50 to 65%, and record that absorption saturates above about 27 mg, far above the 1.4 mg we serve. It takes days rather than hours to act, our file records a half-life of about 1.4 hours with elimination through the kidneys, and it is not significantly broken down by the CYP liver enzymes. Our file has no figure comparing the phosphate form with plain riboflavin. None of this is an authorised claim. Our notes put its absorption at 50 to 65%, saturating above about 27 mg. It leaves through the kidneys, with a half-life of about 1.4 hours. None of this is a claim.
WHERE IT APPEARS
One of the twenty-nine carries riboflavin.
Energy & vitality, the morning CORE formula, at 1.4 mg alongside vitamins B1, B3, B5, B6 and B12 and coenzyme Q10. It is still pending clinical validation, and it has its own exclusions, listed on its page and below. Our file sets a check at three months: if tiredness persists with regular use, the next step is a blood test for ferritin, B12 and TSH to look for another cause.
THE CEILING
No upper limit. Nothing to add up yet.
EFSA has not set an upper limit for riboflavin, and our file records none. Energy & vitality serves 1.4 mg, which is the NRV, and it is the only formula that carries riboflavin, so there is nothing for the engine to add up across your plan. The engine has no rule written for riboflavin, and with no limit to draw, there is no bar on this page.EFSA has set no upper limit for riboflavin. Only one formula carries it, at 1.4 mg, the NRV, so there is nothing to add up across your plan.
1.4 mg is 100% of the NRV, and it is also the figure our file records as the minimum effective amount for adults. That is a reason to include it, not a permission to promise anything.
Riboflavin can turn your urine bright yellow. Our label notes it as harmless: it is riboflavin your body did not need, leaving through your kidneys. It is not a sign of risk.
Our file records no contraindication for riboflavin itself. Do not go over the recommended daily dose, do not use it in place of a varied, balanced diet, and keep it out of the reach of young children. Energy & vitality, the formula that carries it, adds its own exclusions: it is ruled out if you take vitamin K antagonist blood thinners, if you have liver disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Those come from the coenzyme Q10 and niacin in it and from our pregnancy rule, not from the riboflavin, and its page lists further cautions from its other ingredients. Riboflavin contains none of the fourteen allergens that must be declared in the EU, and our file records no intolerance or dietary restriction for it.
WHAT IT REACTS WITH
Documented pairs, not hunches.
Riboflavin is one of the 140 ingredients in our library, so it has 139 possible partners. None of them is documented yet among the 443 pairs on file, and there is no drug interaction for it in our table either.
Our vitamin B6 notes record that the enzyme which converts B6 into its active form needs FMN, which your body makes from riboflavin, and rate the combination as favourable. Both sit in Energy & vitality, at 1.4 mg each. The pair is not in our interaction table yet, so the engine does not act on it.
Our file records that riboflavin is not significantly broken down by the CYP liver enzymes and that it leaves through the kidneys. That is a note on how it is handled, not a guarantee that nothing interacts with it.
No drug interaction for riboflavin is in our drug table. Energy & vitality is still excluded with vitamin K antagonist blood thinners, because of the coenzyme Q10 in it. If you take regular medication, ask a healthcare professional before starting any formula.
None of its formula partners, from vitamin B6 to coenzyme Q10, is in our table as a pair with it yet. Across the library, 443 of the 9,730 possible pairs are documented, which is 4.55%. The rest are not "safe", they are simply unchecked, and we would rather write that down than let the number look like a badge.None of its formula partners is in our table as a pair with it yet.
