Ingredient list
Potassium iodide is a salt that provides iodine, a trace element essential for the production of thyroid hormones. Iodine occurs naturally in foods such as seafood, seaweed, dairy products, and iodized salt. In supplements, potassium iodide is frequently used because it is stable, well absorbed, and provides a reliable source of iodine.
Adequate iodine intake is critical for normal thyroid function, which regulates metabolism, growth, and neurological development [1].
Iodine is required for the synthesis of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones regulate metabolic rate, energy production, and numerous physiological processes throughout the body.
When iodine is consumed, it is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and transported to the thyroid gland, where it is incorporated into thyroid hormones. These hormones influence metabolism in nearly every cell in the body [2].
Iodine deficiency can lead to reduced thyroid hormone production and enlargement of the thyroid gland, a condition known as goiter.
• Supports thyroid hormone production
• Supports metabolic regulation
• Supports normal growth and neurological development
150 µg daily for adults, consistent with recommended dietary intake.
Excessive iodine intake can disrupt thyroid function in sensitive individuals.
Before iodized salt was introduced, iodine deficiency and goiter were extremely common in inland regions around the world.
