COUNTED ACROSS FORMULAS
Stress & nervous system · Chronic cortisol · Low testosterone
All three carry ashwagandha too: 300 mg, 600 mg and 600 mg. The 600 mg here already sits at the informal safety ceiling in our library, so any of them on top would pass it. The engine adds up your ashwagandha across every formula and tracks how long you have taken it without a break. Stress & nervous system and Chronic cortisol also carry rhodiola. Our interaction library marks rhodiola with ashwagandha as a timing precaution: rhodiola in the morning, ashwagandha in the evening, and not in the same capsule.
COUNTED TOGETHER
Magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin B6 and collagen
Nine other VION formulas carry magnesium. Eight of them would reach or pass the 250 mg upper limit for supplemental magnesium on the same day as this one, so the engine will not add them. Vitamin D3 is counted the same way against 100 µg a day, and held to 50 µg when it comes from three formulas, unless a clinician approves. B6 is counted against 12 mg. Skin, hair & nails carries another 10 g of collagen, and our notes put about 15 g a day as a sensible top, because of the protein load rather than a formal limit.
TALK TO A DOCTOR FIRST
Not for everyone
It is excluded if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have liver disease or raised liver enzymes, heart disease, arrhythmias or high-grade heart block, a thyroid disorder (an overactive thyroid, Graves' disease, or a thyroid treated with levothyroxine) or hyperandrogenism, or if you take sedatives, benzodiazepines included, or a vitamin K antagonist such as warfarin or acenocoumarol. Avoid alcohol with it: our notes record ashwagandha and alcohol adding up as sedatives. Do not take it with immunosuppressants such as tacrolimus or ciclosporin, after a transplant, with St John's wort, or with drugs that load the liver (paracetamol, methotrexate, isoniazid). Do not stack it with another strong adaptogen such as ginseng or tulsi, with supplements that load the liver (kava, green tea extract) or act on the thyroid (seaweed with iodine, L-tyrosine), or with high-dose vitamin A. Stop it at any sign of liver trouble: yellowing skin, unusual tiredness, abdominal pain. Stop it 2 weeks before planned surgery. Ask a doctor first if you have an autoimmune condition (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto's), kidney disease (with advanced kidney disease, not at all), myasthenia gravis, peripheral neuropathy, sarcoidosis, lymphoma, primary hyperparathyroidism, granulomatous tuberculosis, high blood calcium or calcium kidney stones, histamine intolerance, or cancer or cancer treatment. The same applies if you take other anticoagulants such as apixaban or antiplatelets, psychiatric medication other than sedatives, diabetes or blood pressure medication, calcium-channel blockers, diuretics, digoxin, corticosteroids, statins, orlistat, anticonvulsants, levodopa without carbidopa, cycloserine, hydralazine, penicillamine, theophylline, the contraceptive pill, aminoglycosides or amphotericin B. On timing: keep magnesium 4 hours away from levothyroxine, keep bisphosphonates and tetracycline antibiotics at least 2 hours apart, take a quinolone antibiotic 2 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after it, keep iron of 25 mg or more apart from the magnesium, and do not swallow collagen in the same mouthful as levothyroxine, which in theory slows its absorption. Have your magnesium checked if you have taken a proton pump inhibitor for more than three months. The collagen comes from animal sources and may come from fish or egg: avoid it if you are allergic to its source. It is not suitable for vegans or vegetarians, nor halal or kosher unless certified. Do not exceed the daily dose, do not use it in place of a varied, balanced diet, and keep it out of reach of young children. The app asks before it ever suggests this one.
