Cognition & memory

Three B vitamins, DHA, phosphatidylserine and bacopa, taken with breakfast. Four of the six carry an authorised EU claim and two do not, and this page tells you which. It is a base formula held for 12 weeks at a time, not a stimulant you feel within the hour.

WHAT IS IN IT

Six actives. Nothing else.

These are the reference doses of the formula. Your device pours them in steps of 0.2 ml, so what you actually take on a given morning can sit below the reference when your data does not call for the full dose.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Four of these six have an authorised claim. Two do not.

In the EU, only a short list of health claims is authorised. Some are rejected and the rest of the register sits on hold. We would rather show you which of our ingredients are on that list and which are not than write a sentence that sounds the same for all six.

Vitamin B12

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“Vitamin B12 contributes to normal psychological function.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, on condition that a dose is at least a source of vitamin B12 under Regulation (EC) 1924/2006. This formula carries 400% of the NRV, as methylcobalamin, the active form. EFSA has not set an upper limit for it.

Reg. 432/2012 · EFSA Journal 2010;8(10):4114 · NRV 2.5 µg · 8 sources on file

Vitamin B6

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“Vitamin B6 contributes to normal psychological function.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, under the same condition. This formula carries 1.4 mg, exactly 100% of the NRV, as P5P, the active form. The upper limit is 12 mg a day, and your B6 is counted across every formula you take.

Folate

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“Folate contributes to normal psychological function.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, under the same condition. This formula carries 400 µg, 200% of the NRV, as 5-MTHF, a form your body does not have to convert first. It stays under the 1,000 µg upper limit and is never served without B12.

Reg. 432/2012 · EFSA Journal 2010;8(10):1760 · NRV 200 µg · 9 sources on file

DHA

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012. The claim holds from a daily intake of 250 mg. This formula carries 500 mg, so a pour of four pulses or more still meets it. The oil comes from microalgae or small fish, and its label carries a fish allergen warning.

Reg. 432/2012 · 2 sources on file · 2 with a PMID

Phosphatidylserine

NO AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

Nothing. EFSA reviewed its claims on cognition and stress and turned them down.

It is here as a building block of nerve cell membranes, at 100 mg. That is below the 300–400 mg a day our library lists for it, and we would rather say so than let the name do the work. It is usually made from soy.

EFSA Journal 2010;8(10):1749 · claim rejected · 2 sources on file

Bacopa

NO AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

Nothing. Bacopa has no authorised EU claim, so we attribute no effect to it.

There is no EMA monograph for it either. The 300 mg dose and the 12-week review come from a randomised, placebo-controlled trial of standardised extract in 54 adults aged 65 or over (Calabrese 2008). Rare liver injury is documented, which is why liver disease rules this formula out.

HOW IT IS POURED

Eight pulses. Not always eight.

The full dose of this formula is 1.6 ml, which the device serves as eight pulses of 0.2 ml. On a morning when your data of the last few days does not call for the whole thing, it pours six and tells you why. A pressed pill has one setting. This has eight.

TONIGHT'S POUR

12345678
1.2 ml of 1.6 mlyour recent data did not call for the full dose

MORNING, WITH BREAKFAST

Why then

It is a daytime formula, built around focus during the day, and its B vitamins work together in the same methylation cycle. Bacopa is also kept away from the evening, where some people report vivid dreams.

WITH FOOD, PREFERABLY

Why not on an empty stomach

Bacopa is meant to be taken with food. On an empty stomach it is more likely to cause nausea, cramps or loose stools, and B6 is also better tolerated with a meal.

45 ML CARTRIDGE

How long it lasts

At the full 1.6 ml it is 28 mornings. At a partial pour it lasts longer, so the app orders your refill from what you actually took.

HOW IT ENTERS YOUR PLAN

A CORE formula is not suggested. It is assigned.

CORE is the part of your plan that stays still on purpose. It comes out of your questionnaire, not out of yesterday's data, and it is held long enough for a change to actually mean something.

  1. 01

    It comes from your questionnaire

Your answers put this formula in your base, and the same answers check it against liver disease, pregnancy and your current medication before it is assigned. No wearable data is needed for that first decision.

  2. 02

It is held for at least 12 weeks

That is how long the trials behind it ran, from bacopa at 12 weeks to DHA at up to 24. Nothing about the recipe moves inside that window.

  3. 03

Only the amount moves, morning by morning

Once it is in, the engine adjusts how much of the 1.6 ml you get, in 0.2 ml steps, from your data of the last few days. The recipe itself does not change.

  4. 04

At 12 weeks, it is reviewed

You repeat a cognitive test and a homocysteine blood test. If things have improved, it carries on, with homocysteine checked every six months and no break needed between cycles. If nothing has changed after 12 weeks of taking it well, bacopa is taken out, as the least supported ingredient.

SAFETY AND INTERACTIONS

What it is never served without, or stacked with.

Every pair of ingredients in our library is checked against the others before a plan is built. This is what that check requires and rules out for this formula.

NEVER WITHOUT

Folate and B12

Folate on its own can hide a lack of B12 while nerve damage progresses unnoticed. Our rules never serve folate without B12, and this formula uses 5-MTHF, the form that makes that masking less likely. That masking matters most if you are over 50, vegetarian or vegan, or take PPIs or metformin.

NOT STACKED AT FULL DOSE

B12 + folate

That formula carries 800 µg of folate. With the 400 µg here it would be 1,200 µg, above the 1,000 µg upper limit, and our rules block any formula that would take you over a limit. Your B6 is counted the same way, against 12 mg a day.

TALK TO A DOCTOR FIRST

Not for everyone

Not with liver disease or an intestinal obstruction. Stop at any sign of liver trouble: yellowing skin, unusual tiredness, abdominal pain, dark urine. Ask first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (only a modified version is allowed, and bacopa is avoided for lack of data), under 18, or have an active stomach ulcer, asthma or COPD, a slow heart rate, heart block, WPW or another rhythm problem, an underactive thyroid, peripheral neuropathy, polycythaemia vera, unexplained macrocytic anaemia or cancer. The same if you have a bleeding disorder or planned surgery (stop 1–2 weeks before), or take anticoagulants, levodopa without carbidopa, isoniazid, cycloserine, anticonvulsants, hydralazine, penicillamine, theophylline, methotrexate, trimethoprim, sulfasalazine, pyrimethamine, cholestyramine, oral contraceptives, nitrous oxide (repeated anaesthesia), H2 blockers, chloramphenicol, colchicine, anticholinergics, cholinesterase inhibitors, sedatives, thyroid hormone, calcium-channel blockers, or long-term metformin or PPIs. Contains fish, so not suitable for vegans or vegetarians. Contains soy unless the label says otherwise. Do not exceed the dose, keep out of reach of young children, and do not use it in place of a varied diet. The app asks before it ever assigns this one.

WHAT IS NOT PROVEN YET

This formula has not completed clinical validation. Its six ingredients rest on published work and, in four cases, on an authorised EU claim, but the combination itself has not been tested by us in a trial. When it is, the result goes on this page, whatever it says.

YOU DO NOT PICK YOUR FORMULAS

Your data does.

The questionnaire and your first weeks of data decide which six of the 29 end up in your device. This page exists so you can read what one of them is before that happens.
