ADAPT BLOODWORKIN DEVELOPMENT

Autoimmune thyroid

Four ingredients, taken with breakfast, for one situation in your bloodwork: a raised TPO-Ab result (thyroid peroxidase antibodies). At its centre is 200 µg of selenium, the dose from the trial our plan is built on, with vitamin D3, marine omega-3 and zinc. It is still in development, the antibody test it depends on is not yet part of our blood panel, and nothing on this page is a promise that your numbers will move.

Four actives. Nothing else.

These are the reference doses of the formula, at the full 1.0 ml. Your device pours in steps of 0.2 ml, but the plan behind this one is written for the full dose every morning, because the selenium dose is the one the trial used.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

All four have an authorised claim. Only one is about your thyroid.

In the EU, only a short list of health claims is authorised. Selenium, vitamin D, EPA and DHA, and zinc are all on it. Only the selenium claim mentions the thyroid, and none of them says anything about thyroid antibodies. The claims are what we are allowed to say. Your blood test is the reason this formula would be on your plan.

Selenium

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“Selenium contributes to normal thyroid function.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, on a product that is at least a source of selenium. 200 µg is 364% of the NRV. It is the dose, as selenomethionine, from the 2002 trial by Gärtner and colleagues, which ran for three months in people with raised thyroid peroxidase antibodies. It sits under the EFSA upper limit of 255 µg a day, but it is twice the 100 µg our own rules set for a single formula, far above the 45 µg the German BfR suggests for a supplement, and our file notes that this form of selenium builds up in your tissues. That is why the plan below has a hard stop.

Reg. 432/2012 · EFSA Journal 2009;7(9):1220 · NRV 55 µg · UL 255 µg · 15 sources on file

Vitamin D3

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, on a product that is at least a source of vitamin D. The NRV is only 5 µg, so 50 µg reads as 1,000%. On its own it is half the EFSA upper limit of 100 µg a day, and above the 20 µg the German BfR suggests for a supplement. Our rules also ask for vitamin K2 and magnesium somewhere in your plan whenever vitamin D3 is in it; this formula carries neither. Nothing in our file ties vitamin D to thyroid antibodies, and we do not claim it.

EPA + DHA

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart (with a daily intake of 250 mg).”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, on condition of 250 mg a day. This formula carries 1,000 mg. It is also the main claim the whole formula is filed under, and it is about your heart, not your thyroid; we do not stretch it. Our reference file on omega-3 is still a short one, with deeper research pending. It comes from fish, so it is not for you if you are allergic to fish, vegan or vegetarian.

Reg. 432/2012 · 250 mg a day minimum · 2 sources on file · 2 with a PMID

Zinc

AUTHORISED CLAIM

WHAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY

“Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system.”

Regulation (EU) 432/2012, on a product that is at least a source of zinc. 15 mg is 150% of the NRV and leaves 10 mg under the EFSA upper limit of 25 mg a day. At 15 mg a day or more, our rules call for at least 1 mg of copper alongside it, because zinc lowers how much copper you absorb. This formula carries none, so as it stands the engine has to add copper or hold it back. Our file also clears zinc with selenium only up to 100 µg of selenium, half the dose here. Both are open points in a formula that is still in development.

HOW IT IS POURED

Five pulses. Set by your blood test, not by last night.

The full dose of this formula is 1.0 ml, which the device serves as five pulses of 0.2 ml. For some formulas, your band decides how many. For this one, the plan on file is 200 µg of selenium every morning for six months, then a new test, and the only markers on that plan come from your blood. A partial pour would also break what the formula rests on: one pulse would carry 40 µg of selenium, a fifth of the trial dose, and 200 mg of EPA and DHA, below the 250 mg a day their claim needs.

MORNING, WITH BREAKFAST

Why then

Our file puts the high selenium dose with breakfast, to be gentler on the lining of your stomach. If you take levothyroxine, keep this at least 4 hours away from it: our selenium file lists that as a precaution, though it is a theoretical one and opinion on it varies.

WITH FOOD, PREFERABLY

Why with breakfast

Vitamin D3 dissolves in fat, and our reference file puts the gain in its absorption with a meal that has some fat in it at 32–50%. Selenium is easier on the stomach with food. Zinc on its own absorbs better on an empty stomach, which is the trade-off here, so our file keeps dairy out of the same breakfast, and strong coffee or tea, and calcium supplements of 500 mg or more, at least 2 hours away.

45 ML CARTRIDGE

How long it lasts

At 1.0 ml a morning it is up to 45 mornings. A six-month cycle is 180, so one cycle takes four cartridges. The app orders each refill from what you actually took.

HOW IT ENTERS YOUR PLAN

An ADAPT formula starts with a blood test. This one also has a hard stop.

ADAPT is the part of your plan that follows your bloodwork. It goes in when a result is out of range, runs for a fixed period at a fixed dose, and comes out when a new test says so. This one has a limit written into it from the start.

  1. 01

It starts with a blood result

It is meant to follow one line of your bloodwork: a raised TPO-Ab result (thyroid peroxidase antibodies). That antibody test is not yet part of our blood panel, so today there is no result in your file that would put this formula on your plan.

  2. 02

    It runs for six months

180 days at 200 µg of selenium a day. The 2002 trial behind the dose ran for three months; we extend it to six, following later work that repeated the protocol. Nothing about this formula moves inside that window.

  3. 03

The next test decides what follows

At six months you repeat TPO-Ab, TSH and free T4. The rule on file is a plan rule, not a promise: if TPO-Ab has fallen by 30% or more and your TSH is back in range, a second six-month cycle may follow after the pause, alongside an anti-inflammatory diet. Otherwise the selenium stops at 12 months, and the next question is whether another autoimmune cause is behind the antibodies.

  4. 04

At most two cycles and 12 months of selenium

Two cycles at most and 12 months of selenium in total, with a 90-day pause between cycles. No authority sets those numbers. They are our own clinical decision: the dose sits under the upper limit, but it is held for a long time and selenium builds up in your tissues.

SAFETY AND INTERACTIONS

What it is never stacked with.

Every pair of ingredients in our library is checked against the others before a plan is built. Inside this formula, two of the six pairs are documented, both as complementary: selenium with zinc (cleared only up to 100 µg of selenium, half the dose here), and vitamin D3 with zinc. This is what the check rules out across your plan.

UPPER LIMIT TRACKED

Functional thyroid · Immunity

Both carry selenium, 100 µg and 55 µg. With the 200 µg here you would reach 300 µg or 255 µg, past or at the EFSA upper limit of 255 µg a day, and the engine blocks any addition that reaches it. Our own rule is stricter still: never more than 200 µg of selenium a day across all your formulas. So nothing else with selenium runs next to this one.

COUNTED TOGETHER

Low testosterone · D3 / K2

Low testosterone carries 50 µg of vitamin D3 and 15 mg of zinc: next to this formula you would reach the 100 µg upper limit for vitamin D and pass the 25 mg one for zinc. D3 / K2 would take your vitamin D to 112.5 µg. The engine adds up both across every formula and blocks any addition that reaches the limit. Zinc is the tighter one: of the nine other VION formulas that carry it, only Digestion & microbiome, at 5 mg, fits next to this one.

TALK TO A DOCTOR FIRST

Not for everyone

Ruled out if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have overt hyperthyroidism, if you take a vitamin K antagonist such as warfarin or acenocoumarol, or if you have liver disease. Also ruled out if you have or have had selenium toxicity (selenosis), a high blood selenium (above 122 µg/L) with no clinical reason, or a known hypersensitivity to selenium. Not for you if you are allergic to fish. Stop and see a doctor if you notice signs of liver trouble: yellowing skin or eyes, unusual tiredness, stomach pain or dark urine. Talk to a doctor first if you take levothyroxine or methimazole (selenium may add to their effect), other anticoagulants such as apixaban or dabigatran, or antiplatelets; if you have a bleeding disorder or surgery planned (the omega-3 is stopped 1–2 weeks before); if you have type 2 diabetes with a high selenium status; if you have cancer or are in cancer treatment, including platinum drugs such as cisplatin; if you have sarcoidosis, lymphoma, primary hyperparathyroidism or granulomatous tuberculosis, high blood calcium or calcium kidney stones, advanced kidney disease, haemochromatosis, Menkes disease or a loss of smell; if you are under 18, where the upper limits are lower; or if you take thiazide diuretics, steroids, digoxin, statins, niacin with statins, lithium, immunosuppressants, oral contraceptives, orlistat, anti-epileptics (phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine), ACE inhibitors, antacids, penicillamine (1 hour apart), bisphosphonates (30 minutes apart), tetracycline antibiotics (2 hours apart), quinolone antibiotics (2 hours before or 4–6 hours after) or iron supplements of 25 mg or more (2 hours apart). Never use zinc nasal products alongside it: they have caused permanent loss of smell. Neither the omega-3 nor the D3 is vegan, and the omega-3 is not vegetarian. Do not exceed the daily dose, keep it out of reach of young children, and remember that a supplement is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet. The app asks before it ever assigns this one.

WHAT IS NOT PROVEN YET

This formula is still in development and has not completed clinical validation. Its four ingredients carry authorised EU claims, but only one of them is about the thyroid and none is about thyroid antibodies. The selenium dose comes from a published trial; the six-month length, the 90-day pause and the two-cycle limit are our own decisions, and the combination itself has not been tested by us in a trial. When it is, the result goes on this page, whatever it says.
